10 Must-Have Books For Your New Nursery

Putting together that perfect nursery seems like such a daunting task when you're expecting a little one. Making sure you find that perfect crib. And that the glider is comfortable enough to sit frequently and for possibly prolonged periods. That the decor is beautiful.

One thing you don't need to worry about is what baby books you need. I've put together a list of my favorite Usborne Books & More books for your new baby. 1. That's Not My Llama

Or one of the other over 40+ That's Not My books.

Babies love touching the textured patch on each page. The words are simple. The adverbs are fun. The pictures are bright. They are perfect for development of sensory and language awareness.

When my youngest son was a baby, I read to him daily. For the longest time, he seemed like he wasn't listening or didn't really care about the books. But I kept at it. These were the first books that he would interact with. And for that, they are my absolute favorite baby books.

2. 123 Counting

Tummy Time!! Your new baby will either LOVE it or HATE it. In case they are in the latter category, do yourself a favor and get this book preemptively.

The high-contrast black and white patterns help with visual development in young babies. The accordion style book can be unfolded and stood up for an attention grabbing aid during that dreaded tummy time.

3. Are You There Little Fox

This Little Peek-Through Book has you following through the little fox through the die-cut shapes in each page. But you find out that what you think is the fox is actually a different animal hiding on each page.

Another in a series but the fox is my favorite because of the bright colors reminiscent of fall.

4. Gobble, Gobble, Moooooo Tractor Book

What is a nursery library without a token farm animal book? Sheep and his friends on the farm discover that, together, they can make all the sounds that Farmer Dougal's tractor does.

Children will love hearing you make the honks, moos and squeaks. And when they are old enough, making the sounds themselves.

5. Crinkle Pets

Another book with bold black and white images. Babies love these things! This cloth book crinkles on each page and is perfect for those little grabbing hands.

6. Where Happiness Lives

Three little mice all reflect on their houses. Which home is the happiest? Together, they discover true happiness and what leads to it.

This story is heartwarming and sweet. It truly belongs on every child's bookshelf.

7. Calming Music Book

Along with the calming, classical music on each page, discover the baby animals that enjoy listening to the music and relaxing. Your baby can curl up in your arms as they listen to peaceful music before bedtime.

8. Play Hide and Seek With Bee

Little baby fingers will love the big flaps on each page, unveiling a hidden animal. Can they find them all in this game of hide-and-seek?

9. Find Your Happy

As a new parent, you'll probably be thinking that all you want is for your baby to be happy and healthy. This book will definitely help to encourage the happiness. The vibrant and fun illustrations are just wonderful. And it includes practical ideas for handling a variety of emotions.

Written by Emily Coxhead, the founder of The Happy News, a newspaper that celebrates all that's good in the world. This book is just a delight. (And if you don't already, go follow @thehappynewspaper on Instagram. You'll be glad you did)

10. Little Board Books

These books may be compact but they contain big stories. From classic tales like Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs to others like On a Pirate Ship or The Rainy Day. They are beautifully illustrated and just the right size for little hands to hold.
